Levi’s winter season typically begins in late October–November, but the most reliable snow and full activity availability starts in December. The season lasts until late April, when you can enjoy long, sunny days, soft spring snow and excellent skiing conditions known as the “Lapland spring winter” — a local favourite.
Auroras are visible in Levi for more than 200 nights per year. The strongest viewing season runs from September to early April, when the nights are long and the skies are darkest. Peak hours are usually between 20:00–02:00, especially on clear, cold nights. In 2025 season the Auroras were visible in average every third night!
These activities are gentle, family-friendly and suitable for all age groups. Husky rides allow children to sit comfortably while adults steer the sled (or ride together), while reindeer tours offer slow, peaceful sleigh rides through snowy forests — ideal for families with young children or seniors.
To drive a snowmobile, participants must be 18+ with a valid car or motorcycle driving license. Passengers, including children, can join as riders. Guides provide full safety briefings, equipment and route selection based on your experience level.
Most Levi activities include warm Arctic-grade gear such as thermal overalls, boots, gloves and helmets. This ensures comfort even in temperatures of –20°C to –30°C. If you have your own winter clothing, you can layer underneath for extra warmth. You can also rent the full set for your whole visit, so you don't need to purchase one just for the Arctic visit.
Many activity providers offer round-trip transportation from Levi hotels, apartments and cabins. Pickup is usually from a designated meeting point near your accommodation, making it easy to join tours without a car.
Kittilä Airport is one of the most accessible airports in Lapland — just 15 minutes from Levi village. With several daily flights from Helsinki and seasonal direct flights from major European cities, arriving in Levi is quick and hassle-free.
